Riverdale, NY – March 10, 2014 –Riverdale Avenue Books’ Magnus Imprint is thrilled to announce that four of their 2013 titles have been nominated for the prestigious Lambda Literary Awards including Best Gay General fiction, Gay Memoir/Biography and Lesbian Memoir/Biography.

"It's an honor to see our authors named finalists. The Lambda Awards have been around for more than twenty-five years and count some of the very best writers among its finalists and winners. I'm thrilled to see Tim, Donna, Hilary, and John included,” said Magnus Editorial Director Don Weise.
“Our four authors have made wonderful contributions to LGBT literature and we thank the Lambda Literary Awards Committee for their recognition” added Riverdale’s Publisher Lori Perkins.

Riverdale Avenue Books/Magnus Books finalists include:

Best Gay Memoir/Biography
· In Bed with Gore Vidal by Tim Teeman. Edmund White calls In Bed with Gore Vidal "the perfect combination of racy gossip—from steamy celebrity liaisons to hustlers in Rome—and penetrating analysis. It shows how a complicated attitude to sex and sexuality shaped an author's life and work. An original, intriguing and necessary portrait of an American icon.”

· American Hipster: A Life of Herbert Huncke, The Times Square Hustler Who Inspired the Beat Movement by Hilary Holladay. The first biography of the hustler/junkie/writer who turned the Beats on to the drugs, sex, and postwar counterculture that shaped their writing and radicalized American literature.

Best Lesbian Memoir/Biography

· Growing Up Golem: How I Survived My Mother, Brooklyn and Some Really Bad Dates by Donna Minkowitz. – Minkowitz’s memoir describes the struggles to control her own life as an adult, even as she publicly appears to be a radical, take-no-prisoners lesbian journalist. In her career, dating, and especially with her own eccentric family, Minkowitz finds herself compelled to do what other people want, to horrible and hilarious effect.

Best General Gay Fiction
The Red Shoes by John Stewart Wynne. PEN/Faulkner Award-winner Kate Christensen says of The Red Shoes, “I read this so fast I got blisters turning pages...Wynne writes such brilliant back and forth dialogue, and I am astounded at the way he writes about sex—how deep it can go, the different ways it can satisfy...I think The Red Shoes is a great work of art."

The winners will be announced on June 2nd at the Great Hall at Cooper Union.
