Read The Hunger Gays by Nathan Alexander

Riverdale Avenue Books’ Releases The Hunger Gays

The Hunger Gays by Nathan Alexander is a Takeoff of the Blockbuster Movie, The Hunger Games

Riverdale, NY – December 11th, 2013 – With box office receipts in the hundred million dollar range for the blockbuster movie “The Hunger Games,” fans of erotic romance will be anxious to read Nathan Alexander’s interpretation of this popular movie in “The Hunger Gays”, now on sale at Riverdale Avenue Books.

“We expect this title to make the Amazon gay and lesbian best seller list just like our previous pop culture sensation, 50 Shades of Gay,” said publisher Lori Perkins.  “I am so pleased that a M/M novel can break through as an homage as part of a pop culture sensation and not be a niche title because both men and women love these books.”

The Hunger Gays explores a world where men are the objectified gender. This allows readers to see what it’s like to be a man, coming of age in a world where women are dominate.

The book ultimately calls into question what defines masculinity, using traditional elements of erotica to explore masculinity, blurring the lines between what separates a man from being straight or gay.

The Hunger Gays forces its participants to choose a position when they enter the competition: top or bottom. The position determines their fighting method. Our main character, Aspen, is 19 years and not entirely sure what he wants. A central struggle of this story is Aspen forcing himself into the role of a bottom because that’s what he thinks he is. Readers will slowly see that Aspen has top tendencies and sports a very dominant personality.

Just because the main character is young doesn’t mean the rest of the cast is. The best part of the Hunger Gays saga is that it opens up the door to different types of gay men- bears, twinks, skinny, fit, silver fox, and husky. Each character participating in the competition will be a unique archetype of the kind of real men you find out in life. There are no cookie cutter types.

Electro Deluxe - How & Why I Wrote My First Erotic Short Story - By Lori Perkins

Riverdale Avenue Books just published Electro Deluxe, the first erotic short story I ever wrote.  I wrote is over a decade ago and published it under a pseudonym, but here it is for the first time under my real name.

And here's the story behind it.

I now use this short story as an example of how even the silliest, fleeting erotic thought can be grist for the erotic writer mill inside your brain.

So, let me tell you my story about my story.

I have a good friend I went to NYU with.  We were both journalists, but I had sold his literary novel when he was in his 20’s, and it was very smutty in a dick lit sort of way.  When I turned 40, I asked him about how he felt about writing all that twenty-something smut, and he said he was proud of it, and glad he had put it down on paper when he did.

I fanned myself and said I could never have written anything like that.

And he said to me, “Lori, you have a kid.  Your mother knows you’ve had sex. Go write me a dirty story.”

He double dog dared me. And I did.

Because there was no way he could do something that I couldn’t.

But it wasn’t easy – at first. Because I was trying to think about what other people might find exciting.

I was try to be Anais Nin and Henry Miller, which I was not.

You need to write what you know in your own words.

Or, use your own fantasies for inspiration.

So, I was trying to think of interesting sex stories about princesses and vampires, but I had just broken up with someone.  And when I break up with someone, I clean my house.

Now I had also recently bought a very expensive vacuum cleaner with many attachments.  And I had to watch a video to figure out how to put it together.  My best friend came over with a pitcher full of margaritas to cheer me up, and I said t her, “You know for all the money I paid for this thing, it should get me off.”

And that was the inspiration for my short story “Electro Deluxe” about a very expensive vacuum cleaner with some marvelous attachments.  I wrote it in a white hot flash, and sent it to Cecilia Tan (publisher of circlet.com, a science fiction, fantasy and horror erotic press).  She told me if was one of the best pieces of smut she had ever read.

And I sold it.

And then I sold a whole bunch of other erotic short stories, all based on these barely memorable ideas that flashed through my head as a result of everyday life.

You know how there used to be this Playboy TV ad saying men had a sex thought every 6 seconds, when women who write and read smut have them just as often, and they are your ticket to a whole new world of  smutty publication.

So, without further ado, here is Electro Deluxe:

A New Look at the Arthurian Legend - Mordred and the King

Readers Will Never Look at King Arthur the Same Way”

RIVERDALE, NY – (June 27, 2013) – The Arthurian legend has never had a more sexually charged interpretation as it has in Mordred and the King, a new e-book by John Michael Curlovich published today by the Magnus LGBT imprint of Riverdale Avenue Books
“I’ve loved the stories about King Arthur and his court since I was a kid,” says Curlovich.  “But it always bothered me that Mordred, one of the villains, is nearly always ‘coded’ as gay – if only by casting actors like Roddy McDowall and Alan Mowbray in the role.  Re-imagining him as a sympathetic gay hero struck me as a fascinating challenge.  As I wrote, it became clear to me that there was a wonderful story to be told.  Writing an epic fantasy with a gay theme was a challenge I took on eagerly, with genuine relish.”

Rich in historical detail and grand in its chronicle of the worlds of Arthur, including those of his romantic and sexual desires, Mordred and the King is a sweeping journey through a retelling of the ancient legend.

Curlovich takes readers back to the sixth century as the classical world is dying and being rapidly replaced by the Christian world. Prince Mordred is the son of Morgan le Fay, the witch-queen who rules Wales.  Morgan and her entourage have long plotted to regain control of England, the Christian country ruled by her brother, King Arthur. They want to destroy everything Arthur has built. Arthur and his party lose their way on a hunting trip and end up in Morgan’s realm.  While visiting his sister’s castle, Arthur is glimpsed by young Mordred, who falls instantly, hopelessly in love with him.  In no time Mordred begins to plan to escape from his mother and to join Arthur in England.

“Mordred and the King is a smart, sexy, fast-paced read that’s also beautifully written and well-researched.  John’s gift in this novel is taking the legend and all the rich historical detail that we’re familiar with and turning it all onto its head.  Readers will never look at King Arthur the same way,” says Don Weise, editorial director of Magnus Books.

Writer John Michael Curlovich is based in Pittsburgh.  He has had more than twenty novels published, as well as numerous short stories.  For ten years he served as the Arts & Entertainment Editor for the award–winning regional monthly, Planet Q.

More Zombie Love! Call for zombie stories

Still Hungry for your Love!

OK, as predicted, zombies never die.  As we await season 4 of Walking Dead, and the opening of World War Z, it’s time for more zombie loving.

So I am putting out the call for stories for Still Hungry for your Love, the second volume of my zombie romance anthology.

Zombie love knows no boundaries.  I’m looking for stories of love amongst the undead, between zombies and the living, and (we hope) many stories about the hot, alpha male and female zombie killers.  These stories can take place in the zombie apocalypse, alternative reality,  the future or on another planet.  You can cross genres (zombie steampunk?) and even sexual proclivities (not sure I can even imagine zombie BDSM). But, hey, let's be creative. and rip that envelope!

But seriously, folks. The zombie metaphor is rich. You know - we're all really zombies; our jobs make us zombies; zombies are a reflection of the mindless horde that is America, rotting on its own abundance.

And the socio/political/scientific elements of the zombie mythos are still ripe for exploration. What's it like to be king of the Zombies? Would zombie TV be any different? What exactly would it be like to be a zombie in love? Or to love a zombie?

So, hit me with your best shot.

Short stories should run between 1500 and 5000 words, and novellas between 20,000 and 30,000 words. Deadline August 31.

This will be an October title published by Riverdale Avenue Book in both ebook and print. Writers will receive a pro rata share of royalties paid quarterly.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of the nature of this anthology, the emphasis in these stories should be on the "romance" and not necessarily the "erotic." But let's see what you can do.

Please email me at lori@riverdaleavebooks.com and let me know if you are working on a story.

If you want to see what I'm looking for , you might want to read the first volume, HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE,  http://www.amazon.com/Hungry-Your-Love-Anthology-ebook/dp/B003P8PLJY/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370754679&sr=1-1&keywords=hungry+for+your+love

Annette Funicello: America's Sweetheart by Marc Shapiro

I am thrilled to have published this wonderful, rich biography of Annette Funicello that was 16 years in the making.

When Annette was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1997, one of Marc Shapiro's publishers approached us about writing her biography.  Marc did the work and conducted a series of original interviews, and then they decided to shelve the book.

When Annette passed away in April (on my birthday), we set about getting the rights back and Marc filled in the missing 16 years in record speed, and with new perspective.  This book is his loving tribute to an amazing woman who both defined her time and was a product of it.

During her four decades in the spotlight Funicello literally defined pop culture, but biographer Shapiro makes clear it was not always an easy ride. Annette Funicello: America’s Sweetheart looks at her life and career from all angles all sides, the ups and downs.

Shapiro’s stories gain power and rare insight through the author’s exclusive interviews with fellow performers Carl Gardner (of the group The Coasters), Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon, Tommy Sands, songwriter Richard Sherman and many others from Funicello’s colorful life. The beloved Disney star and TV and movie icon has told her story before, but it has never been told this way.

Shapiro takes readers through her early days as Mouseketeer in the first season of The Mickey Mouse Club. Chosen for the role in 1955 by Walt Disney himself, she became the most popular Mouseketeer. She then ushered in a new era of teen-friendly movie high jinks in the Beach Party movies with her co-star Frankie Avalon. As a pop singer her biggest hit was 'Tall Paul,' which was a huge hit in 1959, and 'Pineapple Princess,' which was a big success in 1960.

“If there was a constant in Annette Funicello’s relationships with men, it was that they were older, inclined to encourage and yet control,” Shapiro says. “Beginning with her father, Joseph, through her first big romance with singer Paul Anka, her first marriage to Jack Gilardi and second to Glen Holt, the common denominator was that the men encouraged her and, in their own ways, guided her in personal and professional directions that they felt were best for her. And Annette, being the good Catholic girl, coming from a very sheltered upbringing, felt most comfortable with men who would make decisions for her. This is part and parcel of a 50s and early 60s attitude when young girls stayed with their parents until they married and then moved in with their husband. Annette knew as much when, in the wake of her divorce from Gilardi, she indicated that she might have been a different person if she had spent some time on her own,” Shapiro adds.

Justin Bieber's Coming of Age - Legally Bieber

We've just published LEGALLY BIEBER - Justin Bieber at 18 by Marc Shapiro, which is a month-by-month look at Bieber's decent into adulthood.  I think it's a classic, and I've been around pop culture for a few decades.

As Marc Shapiro told me when he pitched this book,  pop idols have a three year life expectancy and we are already on year five of The Bieb.  What kind of man will he become?  This book examines his first year making his own decisions, and it's been a bumpy ride.

RIVERDALE, NY -- (May 08, 2013) –Riverdale Avenue Books the nation’s fastest growing pop culture publisher, releases Legally Bieber…Justin Bieber at 18 on Wednesday, May 8th.  Authored by The New York Times best-selling writer Marc Shapiro, both the print version and e-book will be available at www.riverdaleavebooks.com, Amazon.com and other online retail book sites.

Justin Drew Bieber has come a long way since his birth on March 1, 1994 in London, Ontario to an unmarried 17-year-old Pattie Mallette. The milestone of this musical phenomenon’s 18th year and becoming an adult is captured in Shapiro’s new book.

“I wrote Legally Bieber…Justin Bieber At 18 because I was looking for answers,” said Shaprio. “How does a teenage pop sensation worth untold millions and is the fantasy in human form of millions of pre-teen girls fare in the adult world?

“Does he join the long line of teen idols who have burned out by the time they turn 18? Does he survive into adulthood with his integrity and talent intact? Or does he fall victim to untold excesses and flawed advice from people in his corner who refuse to say no?

“The best way to find answers seemed to be to follow Justin, month by month through his first year as a legal adult, to be at his back as he either rises to the top or stumbles and falls.  Justin Bieber is 18 and the safety net of childhood is officially gone. The future is up to him.  We all wanted answers. Here are the answers.”

Because so much is at stake, the world is watching to see what path Justin (named the third-most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes magazine) chooses to follow and whether or not his managers can still manage him.

Publisher Lori Perkins said, “We were captivated by this look at every moment of Justin growing up before our eyes. This book that chronicles this pop sensation’s coming of age and is a classic of its kind.”

Spank Me, Mr. Darcy by Jane Austen and Lissa Trevor (Find the Secret Sale)

We are thrilled (and a little giddy) to have published Spank Me Mr. Darcy by Lissa Trevor, our Pride and Prejudice erotic mash up.  We think it is quite delightfully naughty in a way that should make you  blush, and keep turning the pages.

Ms. Trevor says, “I wanted to write a fun mash-up that was hot and sexy, while remaining true to the passionate love Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy had for each other.  Pride and Prejudice is over 200 years old and the fact that its characters have endured this long and live in the hearts of readers is a tribute to Jane Austen’s talent. I wanted to play in her world for a bit and expand on Elizabeth Bennet’s sensuality and the dark wickedness I’ve always thought lurked inside Mr. Darcy.”

Spank Me readers will get to visit a Netherfield that has a new master and is infamous for its debauched parties of excess and luxury.  Elizabeth and her sister Jane finagle an invitation to the ball, where Elizabeth is introduced to Mr. Darcy and Jane is captivated by Netherfield’s new owner, Mr. Bingley.  When Jane becomes ill the women remain at Netherfield, and a new world unfolds for Elizabeth when she discovers the dungeons there and the man in the black mask who becomes her Master.

Riverdale Avenue Books publisher Lori Perkins says, “As soon as Lissa came up with the idea for this Pride and Prejudice/50 Shades of Grey mash-up, we knew we had a winner.  The story of kinky goings-on at Netherfield really works.  I loved it and couldn’t put it down.  It was just too clever.”

As Jane Austen would say, “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!  How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! – When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”  How about e-books Ms. Austin?

Lissa Trevor, her stilettos firmly entrenched in the romance community, is a frequent reader at Manhattan’s Between the Covers events.  Lissa also created an erotic story template for Coliloquy’s ValEntwined promotion that let readers download a personalized ebook starring themselves and a significant other.  Her novella Wild Oats, features a time traveling and wild nights of sexual fantasies.  You can find her at http://lissatrevor.wordpress.com/.

And, just for YOU RAB readers, if you type in the promo code ROMANCE when buying the book from our website, riverdalevebooks.com, you can save $3.00 off the list price (but only until the end of April).

Ryan Field Writes M/M Vampire Mafia Series for RAB

We are so thrilled to be publishing best-selling M/M author Ryan Field in his new series Fangsters: Clan of the Jersey Boys.

RAB/Magnus editor in chief Don Weise says of Fangsters, “Ryan brilliantly and erotically weaves together the feel of Twilight and The Sopranos as the underworld of the living dead meets organized crime. It’s tender, explicit, explosive and at the same time romantic. Ryan has created a world all his own.”

In Field’s novel, protagonist Anton Pagano looks and sounds just like any other twenty-something. He lives in northern New Jersey with his mom and dad, and he's never had to worry about anything other than his wardrobe, his latest new car, and the secret love affair he's been having for years. However, Anton has more than just the love affair to hide: he belongs to a Sicilian vampire mobster clan that migrated to New Jersey in the late 1800s.

When Anton's dad, the head of their clan, decides it's time for Anton and his vampire cousin Digger to get into the “family business,” Anton is not enthusiastic, at least until he meets a sweet young human named Leo on his first night at work. New Trinity Blacio - Masters of the Cats: Collaring the Saber-Tooth

I am so thrilled to be working with Trinity Blacio again on a brand new, hot series.  She is one of the most creative writers I know. Who else even writes about vampire aliens and saber-tooth shape-shifters in polyamorous relationships where every woman has three hot men? I love her!

Blacio brings her unique blend of paranormal ménage to the realm of vampires and shape-shifters with this new series, which describes a world where every woman has three masters to love her. The first book in the series, Collaring the Saber-Tooth, stars feline shifter Maya, a hot matriarch to a den of cat shifters.

Here’s an excerpt:
“Light years away, the Tetraheros came together. Their creation, the Cometegerace, is on the verge of extinction, even with the female companions provided to them throughout the years. Meanwhile, one lone rogue has tried to wipe out the feline shifter population on Earth. There was only one solution: The Cometedge Pact. Three warriors are bound to every female, connecting two separate races through a sense of duty, blood, sex and love.”

The first chapter of Blacio’s second book in the series, Hard Limits, is featured as a bonus at the end of the novel.

Trinity said her inspiration comes from her favorite romance writers. “I have read many series. Christine Feehen’s “Carpathian” series and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Dark Hunter” series are two that I really enjoy. Both of these wonderful ladies gave me the inspiration to create my world. Shifters and vampires have been a favorite of read mine for years and I figured why not bring all these begins together to create my world.”

Trinity Blacio is the best-selling author of 30 erotic romance novels. She has been writing professionally for a decade and her work covers the spectrum of dark fantasy and erotic ménage. Trinity lives in Welllington, OH, with her two children, Cheyenne and Rudy and her two cats, Smokey and Missy. Who is Katie Holmes?

RAB just published Who is Katie Holmes? An Unauthorized Biography by Marc Shapiro, the first post-divorce bio of this surprisingly independent woman.

Who is Katie Holmes we all wondered when she defied all odds and stealthy left her older, richer more powerful Hollywood husband with her celebrity daughter in tow arriving in New York City to welcome arms, and a starring role on Broadway.  Where did she get that independent streak?  How did we under-estimate her?

Who is Katie Holmes? fills in the blanks.  It tells the classic Hollywood story of small town girl who comes to tinsel town, ultimately fulfills her every fantasy and discovers that there is a price to be paid for getting everything you desire.

Who is Katie Holmes? is more than another 'true Hollywood story.' It is the story of talent, tenacity and the will to succeed on her own terms. Katie Holmes speaks softly but, when pressed to the wall, she has proven that she can wield a big stick. Alternately insightful, dramatic and heartfelt, Who is Katie Holmes? is a straightforward look at the struggles and setbacks that only a person of character and compassion has the strength to overcome. Katie Holmes’ story is ultimately one of triumph and redemption - A true happy ending.

The Magic Behind Warlock Masters

By Donald Weise, Editor-In Chief, Magnus

I've been following Domingo Rhodes work for years and I am so glad to feature his amazingly hot work at Magus. When his collection of BDSM Warlock stories came in, I knew we had to publish it.

Rhodes writes some of the hottest man sex I know. It's beyond just erotic; the always explicit scenes and the fantastic worlds in which they play out set him apart as a writer of erotic fiction. His stories feature one hot coupling, and then some, after the next, from start to finish, to the point where you're left wondering how his characters don't collapse in exhaustion, but at the same time grateful they don't. But it's more than the sex alone. Rhodes also writes some of the most well-crafted sex stories out there. Add to that the fact that he's brilliant at master/slave dynamics. I don't know who will be more turned on: sadists or masochists, or maybe just anyone who loves their erotica out on the edge. I'm thrilled to be bringing out his first fiction collection at last.

In these supernatural erotic stories of dominance and submission, readers enter the forbidden, no-holds-barred worlds of warlock sex masters and the male slaves who dutifully serve and obey their every command. No order is refused, no sex act too outrageous. These wickedly sadistic warlocks push their insatiable young slaves to their sexual limits—and beyond. Warlock Masters is steamy erotic fiction sure to arouse the sadist or masochist in anyone.

But don't take my word for it.  See what Samuel Delany said about this collection:
"Four wonderfully inventive tales, as only Domingo Rhodes could write them, that appeal to the darkness within us all. Descend into the marvelous homoerotic and mysterious worlds of magic and unbridled sex. And enjoy—if you dare!" —Samuel R. Delany

So please, like the collection on Amazon, and tell your friends to follow this hot new author.  There’s a 20% off discount if you order directly from our website at riverdaleavebooks.com through March 31st.

A Really Important Book

-->
Not every book we publish is going to be sexy or hot or even exciting.  This is one of those books that is just important.

I did not know that the rate of prostate cancer development was twice as high for gay couples, and I honestly hadn't thought about what it would be like to be a gay man with prostate cancer until Don Weise, our Editor in Chief of Magnus, told me about this book.  And then I  knew we had to publish it.

Every gay man should know that this book exists at an affordable price.  Hopefully, he'll never have to reference it.

WHAT EVERY GAY MAN NEEDS TO KNOW
ABOUT PROSTATE CANCER
The Essential Guide to Diagnosis, Treatment, and Recovery

Edited by Gerald Perlman, PhD

Breaking the silence around the special concerns and issues faced by gay men
diagnosed with prostate cancer, this new book explores the full spectrum
of experiences from diagnosis to recovery

March 8, 2013 – Riverdale Avenue Books/Magnus is proud to publish the first trade book on prostrate cancer for gay men.  “I was truly amazed that something like this did not already exist at an affordable price,” said Magnus Editor-in-Chief, Donald Weise.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among American men and the second leading cause of deaths in men, after lung cancer. Men have a one in six chance of diagnosis with the number doubling for gay couples. While biology between gay and heterosexual men is the same, cultural differences in the ways in which gay men and heterosexuals experience diagnosis, treatment, and recovery vary widely. Most urologists, support groups, and prostate cancer literature assume patients are heterosexual, leaving gay men to seek out reliable information particular to their needs on their own.

What Every Gay Man Needs to Know About Prostate Cancer provides gay men with the essential answers to important questions often left undiscussed, regarding anal intercourse, erections and ejaculate, as well as recovery time and expectations for future sexual activity after treatment and surgery.

Magnus Books editor in chief Don Weise says of the book, “When I first heard about the project, I immediately wanted to do it. I didn’t know a lot about prostate cancer, but I saw that there was almost nothing in print on the topic for gay men and their partners specifically. I felt I had to publish the book. The clinical information is essential reading for anyone diagnosed with prostate cancer, and the personal testimonials by gay men who have survived it are deeply moving and eye-opening. The book is also an ideal tool for healthcare professionals new to the topic of how prostate cancer affects gay men and who are looking for ways to assist their gay clients navigate their diagnosis and treatment.”

Editor Gerald Perlman, PhD has been a Supervisor of Psychotherapy at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, at Fordham, Pace, and Yeshiva Universities, and at the City University of New York. In his private practice in New York, Dr. Perlman specializes in individual and couples therapy.  For almost ten years (under the auspices of Malecare) he facilitated an ongoing, open-ended group for gay men who have been diagnosed with and/or treated for prostate cancer. He lives in New York.
